The RotoMill® unit will be integrated into SAR Gruppen’s existing treatment infrastructure and is expected to become operational later this month.
Integrated drill cuttings handling
The agreement also combines TWMA’s drilling waste treatment technology with SAR Gruppen’s existing waste management infrastructure to provide a more integrated handling solution.
Under the arrangement, drill cuttings from offshore rigs can be transported directly to the Risavika facility and transferred into the treatment process without additional intermediate lifting operations.
Reducing the number of handling stages can help shorten vessel turnaround times, improve logistics efficiency and simplify the movement of drilling waste from offshore installations to onshore treatment.
Supporting Norway’s offshore activity
The additional treatment capacity comes as activity on the Norwegian Continental Shelf remains strong.
The Norwegian Offshore Directorate expects approximately 40 exploration wells to be drilled in 2026, while Statistics Norway estimates that oil and gas investment will reach around NOK 266 billion during the year.
Higher offshore activity increases the need for reliable waste handling and treatment infrastructure capable of supporting drilling operations.
The partnership is therefore expected to strengthen local processing capacity while providing operators with a more streamlined approach to drilling waste management.
Focus on efficiency and waste treatment
TWMA said the agreement will combine its treatment technology with SAR Gruppen’s established infrastructure to provide operators with additional processing capacity and improved handling efficiency.
SAR Gruppen said the investment will strengthen its ability to manage larger drilling waste volumes while reducing unnecessary handling and improving operational flow.
The expansion highlights the growing role of specialised waste treatment technologies in supporting efficient and more sustainable offshore drilling operations.
