Sulzer has expanded its presence in North Africa through a joint venture with Jawaby Services & Investments Ltd (JSIL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC), to deliver local rotating equipment services for the country’s energy sector.

The partnership has established a new company, Jawaby Sulzer Services, which will provide original equipment manufacturer (OEM)-grade maintenance, repair and engineering services from a new operational headquarters in the Misrata Free Zone, near Tripoli.

The facility will support Libya’s oil and gas, power generation and industrial sectors by offering maintenance, rehabilitation and re-engineering services for critical rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, gas and steam turbines, motors and generators.

Previously, operators in Libya were required to send major equipment overseas for repairs and refurbishment, resulting in longer maintenance schedules, increased costs and operational delays. The new joint venture is expected to reduce downtime by providing internationally recognised technical expertise within the country while meeting global industry standards.

According to Sulzer, the partnership combines the company’s global engineering expertise with JSIL’s local market knowledge to strengthen technical capability and improve operational efficiency across Libya’s energy industry.

Alex Myers, Regional President for India, Middle East and CIS at Sulzer Services, said the investment supports growing upstream activity in Libya by providing reliable, locally delivered maintenance services for complex rotating equipment. He added that the initiative will help improve equipment reliability while supporting the long-term development of Libya’s industrial sector.

Ahmed Ibrahim ElBadri, Executive Manager of JSIL, said the partnership reflects a commitment to developing local expertise by creating skilled employment opportunities, supporting Libyan suppliers and building sustainable technical capability within the country.

The establishment of Jawaby Sulzer Services represents a significant investment in Libya’s energy infrastructure, supporting asset reliability, local content development and the continued growth of the country’s oil and gas industry.
